Nasir El Rufai Of APC Wins Kaduna By A Landslide.

Nasir El-RufaiFormer minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasir El Rufai has won the gubernatorial election held on Saturday in Kaduna state by a landslide based on 80% results from polling units across the state. The diminutive former minister defeated the incumbent governor of Kaduna state, Ramalan Yero, by a wide margin in most of the 23 local government areas of the state. El Rufai is leading Mr. Yero by at least 500,000 votes.

Election results obtained by SaharaReporters shows that El Rufai has obtained 725,293 as opposed to Yero's 242,392.

Alhassan Set To Become First Elected Female Governor.

 

        

   Following reports Senator Jummai Aisha Alhassan‘s is leading in the Taraba governorship                     polls. She is set to become the first female governor in Nigeria.

If she wins the victory will make Sen. Alhassan the first elected female governor in the history of Nigeria.

According to reports on social media, Alhassan, who represents the All Progressives Congress , is leading the People Democratic Party’s Mr Darius Ishaku.

She will not be Nigeria’s first female governor.

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari said ‎the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to fear over mass defection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the party, Daily Trust has reported.

 

"I have no fears of PDP defectors," he said in an interview in his Daura residence on Saturday.

 

Buhari said the PDP chieftains will have very little influence in the APC government.

 

He said APC has all the capacity to manage the large numbers of PDP defectors.

 

"The people who are defecting will only have influence in their constituencies. Since their constituencies are now controlled by the APC their influence is therefore limited," he said.

 

‎Though the president-elect said only the party can handle the issue of defections, he said the PDP bigwigs will be wise enough not to jostle for positions in the new government.

 

"I hope the people that are defecting will accept the fact that they are joining the people who succeeded. So, I don't think they will just come and say they want to be ministers next month simply because they were ministers before," he said.

Oba Of Lagos Was Only Joking: Igbo Lawyer Opens Up

A Lagos-based lawyer and industrialist Chukwudi Atueyi, who was one of those who participated in the meeting between Igbo leaders and the Oba of Lagos state, Rilwan Akiolu, has explained what really happened.

Speaking to Vanguard, Chukwudi said the Oba was only joking when he made the threat to Igbos living in Lagos.

Oba Akiolu’s statement has generated a lot of controversy. He had threatened Igbos resident in the mega city to vote for Akinwumi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the upcoming governorship elections this Saturday or risk being thrown in the Lagos lagoon.

According to him, none of the persons present at the meeting took offence when the Oba made the statement as it was not directed at the whole of the Igbos in Lagos but jocularly to his Igbo friends who had visited him.

Chukwudi said: “the Eze Ndi Igbo honorary in Lagos went to pay HRM solidarity visit on Sunday and I was fortunate to be among those present at the said meeting. What the Oba said was fully and simply directed to only the Igbos present at the meeting who his majesty considers to be very close to him and should understand him well enough.

“You know when one talks to his very close friends and subjects, he tends to be very free with them, so he was being very free with those present at the meeting and wanted us to realize how serious and close he takes us and our votes, because he cannot imagine us giving him our words only to turn back and do the very opposite.

“He did not force us to the meeting, we were the ones that went to him on solidarity visit, so it would be very evil of us to only go and deceive him there. He only jokingly (at least as it appeared to me then) warned the people present at the meeting who he considers his own people.

“He was only addressing the Igbos with him present there whom he considers his own people and he simply observed his culture which we all quite understood and this explains why there was applause and laughter at the end of his speech. We were expected to, thereafter, talk to our people in civilized manner to convince them and canvass for their votes if we truly believe we are capable of doing so.

He explained that though the Oba appeared serious, those present at the meeting understood he was joking and that is why they applauded him and made fun of it there.

“So I suspect serious politics at play here. I wouldn’t know who recorded the speech and decided to play politics with it. It is most unfair to his majesty to be portrayed in this manner and I think I owe it as a duty to speak up before things get out of hand.’’

Oba Akiolu’s threat to the Igbos in Lagos has been a hot topic of discussion. Some Nigerians have lashed out at him, some have defended him and others have begged for forgiveness on his behalf.

Some of the Igbos in Lagos in reaction to the Oba’s recent threat, have promised not to vote for Ambodein the forthcoming Saturday election, daring Akiolu to go ahead with his threat.

‘We Won’t Return To The Creeks’ – Ijaw Youths To Asari Dokubo

The Ijaw Youth Council has on Thursday dismissed itself from the threats by ex-militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari that Niger Delta militants might return to the creeks to protest against the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential poll.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the President of IYC, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, made the disclosure known, after reading a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held at Tuomo community in Delta State to review the outcome of the March 28, 2015 Presidential election.
IYC, however, said it would cooperate with and closely monitor the incoming administration of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) to “see their(its) dance steps.”
Eradire also expressed sadness over what he described as the deliberate efforts by the core North and a section of the South-West “to frustrate the administration of Jonathan and force him out of power through false media propaganda and insurgency in the North in connivance with some foreign countries.”
